For the first time in Iran, the Sciences and Interdisciplinary Technologies Faculty to be opened at TMU

In order to pave the way and create the potentials for new fields of study, Dr. Ahmadi, announced that for the first time in Iran, TMU intends to establish a separate faculty for Sciences and Interdisciplinary Technologies.

Referring to the unique nature of the courses and fields offered at this new faculty, an issue which makes these courses impossible to be integrated into any of the existing faculties, he added: “about 70 to 80 percent of many of the interdisciplinary fields belong to one particular field while the remaining 20 or 30 percent can be supported by other fields of study. The more dominant field usually takes control of the new field of study, but the percentage of shared courses in some of these new fields is in such a way that neither field can be regarded as the dominant field, causing a conflict between various departments over the management of the new field.

Dr. Ahmadi further said: “this new faculty does not have its own faulty members, but it provides a framework and system to create a kind of network in which academia from different faculties / departments can cooperate and work as the members of a single team to fulfill the educational and research objectives of the new faculty”.

Referring to the precedence of such faculties in the world, he expressed hope that this new experience in Iran will end up in success. He added that with sufficient budget, the construction of the faculty will soon begin at the southern part of TMU campus. Presently a temporary building in the campus has been assigned to this faculty and next year the faculty will officially start its operation by admitting students.
